Protoshyraena was a fish that lived in the Late Cretaceous seas. It looked a lot like a Sword Fish or a Marlin.
The fish was carnivorous and had teeth arranged for killing prey by stabbing it.Scientist have been wondering about the saw-blades were for.
The fish was about 6 or 9ft as an adult long and had 3ft moon shaped pectoral fins with a saw-tooth edge like a shark's tooth.
Its fossils usually are found with a vertebrae and a complete one was found only extremely recently. A fossil without vertebrae is rare. Most of the time, a corpse gets stripped to bone by scavengers or rots on the surface if the sea then sinks.
