Deinocheirus is an ornithomimosaurian theropod dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous of Mongolia.

Limnoscelis BW

Description[]

Little skeletal material of Deinocheirus has been formally described. Its most completely known elements are its forelimbs, which each measure two and a half meters in length. Its hands bore claws that were nearly 20 centimeters long. Ribs and vertebrae are also known.[1]

New specimens of Deinocheirus have recently been discovered. While they are yet to be formally described, the new fossil material confirms their ornithomimosaurian identity and indicates that the dinosaur had a sail or hump on its back much like Spinosaurus or Ouranosaurus.[2] The skull was stolen by looters, but was later recovered and returned to Mongolia.[3] Descriptions and photographs reveal that the skull looks superficially similar to that of a hadrosaur.[4]
